The volcano of Santorini is active and was created millions of years ago. The island of Santorini was called Strogili (Round) in antiquity because of its circular shape. The eruptions of the volcano sank the central part of the island and Santorini,in the form we know it today, was born 3.600 years ago. Both islets of the volcano, Palaia and Nea Kameni, can be visited.
